Despite all the international attention given to the issue of displaced Syrians in Lebanon, Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas confirmed that a humanitarian disaster is in the offing, and that such a disaster is likely to affect all of Lebanon.

Derbas, in charge of the issue of the displaced, told Al-Monitor that the visits carried out by international officials to Beirut have been almost exclusively linked to the issue of the displaced Syrians.

He said that Estonia's Prime Minister Taavi Roivas, Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipila and Denmark’s Minister of Immigration, Integration and Housing Inger Stoejberg visited Lebanon on Aug. 15; that Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira arrived in Beirut on Sept. 13; Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders and Norwegian Foreign Minister Burg Brandi paid a visit Sept. 21; and the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg visited the country Nov. 6.

In addition, other high-level politicians visited Lebanon, such as British Prime Minister David Cameron (Sept. 14), President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher (Oct. 22) and French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve (Oct. 25).
