Former US, Israeli officials voice support for Biden's Pentagon policy pick
Former US ambassadors and retired Israeli generals are among those backing Colin Kahl for the Pentagon's top policy role.
Dozens of US foreign policy veterans and three top Israeli generals are voicing support for President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Pentagon’s policy office, Colin Kahl, as opposition to his confirmation mounts from Republican-aligned groups.
“Just as we are confident that Dr. Kahl is committed to the US-Israel relationship, we also know he has never wavered in his effort to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran,” reads a letter signed by 51 experts addressed to leadership of the Senate Armed Services committee.
Those signing include leaders of Jewish organizations, members of Congress, national security officials and three former US ambassadors to Israel, Politico and The Times of Israel reported.
“He is committed first and foremost to furthering America’s national security interests in the Middle East, which includes thwarting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, nefarious regional activities and aggression, proliferation of ballistic missiles, and human rights violations, while ensuring the security of our allies and partners, especially Israel,” the letter reads.
