Saudi Arabia building support for Expo 2030 bid
The kingdom wants to host the international cultural forum, which is currently being held in Dubai.
Saudi Arabia received more endorsements for its bid to host Expo 2030. Djibouti announced its support for the Saudi capital Riyadh hosting the event in 2030, the official Saudi Press Agency reported Wednesday.
Djibouti’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dya-Eddine Said Bamakhrama, said the endorsement is “based on the close fraternal ties” between the two countries. He also mentioned the kingdom’s “huge potential” in a statement published by the agency.
Zambia also endorsed the Saudi bid, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a tweet today. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called his Zambian counterpart Stanley Kakubo to thank him for the support, according to the ministry.
The Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions hosts a world fair every five years at different locations around the world. Countries bid on hosting the expos, but entities from anywhere can participate wherever the event takes place. Expo 2020, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is currently taking place in Dubai. The 2025 expo has already been awarded to Osaka, Japan.
