Iranian state media bristled at former President Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, as the region braces for his return to the White House.

Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, winning several key battleground states that both candidates campaigned hard for. The victory brought to an end a chaotic election season in the United States that was marked by two assassination attempts on Trump as well as a felony conviction for the former president.

Iranian reactions: Iran has been both dismissive and critical of Trump since the results became clear. Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told reporters on Wednesday that Trump’s win has “nothing to do” with Iran, and that US policy remains “constant.”

"It doesn't matter who becomes the president in the United States because all the necessary planning has been made in advance,” she said.
