Iran unveils underwater suicide drone as US tensions grow: What we know
The showcasing of the unmanned aerial vehicle follows the unveiling of a new drone carrier warship and plans to develop a supersonic cruise missile.
Iran unveiled a new drone on Wednesday in the presence of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and amid rising tensions with the United States.
The Iranian Defense Ministry said the Hadid 110 is a jet-powered suicide drone that can be launched from underwater. Footage posted by state media showed the unmanned aerial vehicle taking off from a body of water.

The drone was unveiled during the Eghtedar-1403 exhibition held in the capital Tehran and named after the current Iranian calendar year. Khamenei attended the exhibition along with Iranian armed forces chief of staff Gen. Mohammad Bagheri and other officials. The purpose of the event was to showcase the armed forces’ latest technological advancements, according to state media reports.
On Sunday, Rear Adm. Alireza Tangsiri of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said Iran would soon unveil a supersonic cruise missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles).
