Venezuela’s VP meets emir in Qatar, looks to expand energy ties: What to know
Qatar has demonstrated interest in Venezuela’s recovering oil industry as well as mediation between the US and the South American country.
Qatar welcomed a top Venezuelan official in Doha on Tuesday for a visit aimed at boosting political and energy ties between the two countries.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez at the Amiri Diwan office. The two discussed bilateral cooperation, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
Also Tuesday, Rodriguez met Qatari Foreign and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al Kaabi. The meeting with Kaabi focused on ways to enhance energy-related cooperation between Venezuela and Qatar, per the agency.

Rodriguez, who also served as petroleum minister until January, arrived in Doha on Monday evening for a visit focused on boosting trade, tourism and technology ties with Qatar. Her delegation includes Foreign Trade Minister Coromoto Godoy, according to the state-run VTV.
