WASHINGTON — With European powers poised to trigger on Thursday the so-called snapback of United Nations sanctions on Iran, the head of the UN nuclear watchdog agency called for full access to the country's most sensitive nuclear facilities.
“We have to go back there as soon as possible,” Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told reporters in Washington on Wednesday.
Grossi said IAEA inspectors would visit the Bushehr commercial nuclear power plant on Wednesday, marking the first time the agency has been granted in-person access to any of Iran’s nuclear facilities since its parliament passed legislation in June halting cooperation with the IAEA.
