Pentagon steers clear of new Israel-Houthi escalation: What to know
The US military has sought to avoid actions that could threaten its fragile truce with the Iran-armed rebels.
WASHINGTON — The US military is steering clear of further escalation as Israel’s defense minister threatens to ramp up retaliatory strikes against Yemen’s Houthi rebels for launching ballistic missiles toward Israel.
The Pentagon did not provide intelligence or any other forms of support for Israeli strikes near a power generation facility south of Sanaa on Sunday, two US officials told Al-Monitor. Israeli media reported the strikes were carried out with the involvement of the Israeli Navy.
What they’re saying: Defense Minister Israel Katz on Sunday warned in a post on X that the Iran-armed Yemeni rebels will “pay with compound interest” for each attempted attack.
“We are imposing an air and sea blockade on them that hurts them greatly, and this morning we struck infrastructure and energy targets. This is just the beginning,” Katz said.
