Iran’s Pezeshkian meets Xi in Beijing as China, Russia try to stall E3 sanctions
Iran’s president met China's in Beijing after the SCO summit, which backed Iran’s against international sanctions and condemned US-Israeli strikes on the country earlier this summer.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Beijing Tuesday for a meeting with China’s Xi Jinping a day after the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin concluded with a statement in support of Iran against renewed international sanctions.
Pezeshkian-Xi meeting
Pezeshkian met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday in their first encounter since Israeli and US strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities in June. Xi voiced China’s support for Iran’s right to a civilian nuclear energy program.
“The use of force is not the right way to resolve differences. Communication and dialogue are the right path to achieving lasting peace,” Xi said to Pezeshkian, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
