UAE president visits Qatar, bans Israel from Dubai Airshow after Doha strikes
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan threw his country’s support behind Qatar, saying the Israeli strikes on Qatari territory violated international laws.
Citing security concerns, the United Arab Emirates has barred Israeli defense industries from participating in the Dubai Airshow set for November, just one day after Israel launched airstrikes at Hamas’ leadership in the Qatari capital, Doha.
An Israeli Defense Ministry spokesperson confirmed to The Times of Israel on Wednesday earlier reports in Israeli media that the UAE had informed both the ministry and Israeli company executives of its decision.
While the decision did not explicitly mention the Israeli airstrikes, its timing coincides with regional condemnation of Israel’s strikes in Doha and the arrival of United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the Qatari capital on Wednesday — one day after Israel targeted a meeting of Hamas leaders in the city. According to reports, the group was convening to discuss the latest US proposal on a hostage deal and an agreement to pause hostilities in the Gaza Strip at the time of the attack.
