A sun-drenched stroll through Istanbul’s Asian side
From Ottoman gems to toy treasures
Welcome to Al-Monitor Istanbul.
“You seem to be unaware that Istanbul sits on two continents,” chided an indignant reader, reminding me that, despite my Beyoglu bias, Istanbul’s Asian side has its own cultural pulse.
With most Istiklal galleries and museums shuttered for Eid al-Adha on June 6-10, here’s a sun-drenched detour to the Asian side (Bagdat Avenue — which locals simply refer to as “Cadde” — Fenerbahce, Goztepe and Caddebostan). Others, such as romantic Moda, historical Beylerbeyi and Beykoz, and artistic Yeldegirmeni and Kuzguncuk, will follow in future editions.
