From anguish to stillness: Sarkis returns

Dialogues, antique tables to autumn leaves.

Istanbul

Welcome to Al-Monitor Istanbul.

September presents Istanbul at its best: crisp skies, relaxed crowds and galleries gearing up for the 18th Istanbul Biennial, curated by Christine Tohmé and themed “The Three-Legged Cat,” whose first leg will be Sept. 20–Nov. 23.  We’ll dive into the feline frenzy next week and the one after that.

For now, we turn to two art heavyweights: Sarkis, framing memories in Edirnekari wood, and Canan Tolon, staging nature’s encirclement. We also pause for some Armenian flavors, a forest stroll, and a poetic tale from Gezi Park to Gulhane.
