Al-Monitor recognized by IPI as 'Free Media Pioneer'
The International Press Institute has awarded the annual Free Media Pioneer Award to Al-Monitor as “a model for independent coverage of the region through its news, features, analysis and commentary at a time of political upheaval.”
Al-Monitor was honored this week to receive the International Press Institute’s Free Media Pioneer Award for 2014.
“Al-Monitor’s unrivalled reporting and analysis exemplify the invaluable role that innovative and vigorously independent media can play in times of change and upheaval,” IPI Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie said in a press release announcing the award.
The International Press Institute, founded in 1950, is a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists committed to the advancement of press freedom and the best practices of journalism.
The Free Media Pioneer Award was established by IPI in 1996 to honor media and organizations that have fought to ensure freer and more independent media in their country or internationally.
