Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, half brother to Jordanian King Abdullah II and a former crown prince, has signed a statement affirming loyalty to the king, seemingly putting an end to the rift among the royal family that had shocked the country over the past two days.
"In light of the developments of the past two days, I put myself at the disposal of His Majesty the King," said the statement signed by Prince Hamzah and released late Monday.
The Jordanian government said they took action against a plot on Saturday that targeted Jordan’s “security and stability.” Intelligence, security and military forces said that Hamzah; Bassam Awadallah, a Jordanian businessman and former adviser to the king; and others were involved in “activities and movements … targeting the security and stability of the nation,” the Jordanian state Petra News Agency reported on Sunday.
Earlier on Monday, a recording of a phone call leaked in which the former crown prince told an alleged collaborator that he was “threatened,” has had several restrictions placed on him and refuses to comply.
