PARIS — Representatives of more than 20 countries met Wednesday in Paris at the invitation of the French government to discuss measures against the funding of Hamas and combat the spread of hateful content by Hamas on social media.

The meeting included political directors from foreign ministries of these countries and also representatives from ministries of finance, security agents, and experts on crypto and social media. Justice ministries will be involved in the next phases of the plan.

The French invited states that share the same vision of combatting Hamas, including European, American and Asian countries. Israel and the United States were present. No Arab country was invited. That being said, French and Israeli diplomatic sources noted that certain Arab countries were briefed before and after the meeting, expressing interest in the plan to combat the financing of global terrorism.

Championed by Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry Frederic Mondoloni, the meeting addressed concrete actions that could be taken against Hamas internationally as well as ways to increase international coordination against the group.
