WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit the White House on Feb. 4, making Netanyahu the first foreign leader to receive such an invitation in Trump’s second term.

Netanyahu’s office announced the invitation in a post to X on Tuesday afternoon.

The last time the two men met was in July, when Netanyahu traveled to Florida to meet then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence. During the visit, Trump praised his “great relationship” with the Israeli leader.

Today’s invitation spells optimism for the Israeli premier, who had pinned policy hopes on Trump’s election and is reportedly eager to gain the new US administration’s backing for a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities and to work toward a US-backed normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.
