Turkey’s Simsek tours US for IMF, WB summits, Treasury Secretary meeting

Turkey’s finance czar is starting his trip in New York before heading to Washington for talks on economic cooperation and global financial issues.

ANKARA — Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek traveled to the United States on Monday to meet with international investors before attending the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

Simsek began his visit in New York, where he is scheduled to meet senior executives from the world’s three leading credit rating agencies — Moody's, Standard & Poor's and Fitch Ratings — Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing Finance Ministry sources.

Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan is expected to accompany Simsek in New York, according to Anadolu.

On Tuesday, Simsek will travel to Washington to participate in the annual spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank.
