Renowned British chef Gordon Ramsay’s culinary school is set to open three locations in Saudi Arabia in 2025, a local company announced this month, as the kingdom works to develop its culinary scene amid the wider tourism and hospitality push.

What happened: The Riyadh-based Al Khaleej Training and Education Company announced that it signed a deal worth around 2.8 million Saudi riyals (around $750,000) to establish the Gordon Ramsay Academy in Saudi Arabia. The branches of the cooking school will be located in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar, with the first one set to open by the end of the year, the company said in a statement posted to the Saudi Exchange website.

The Gordon Ramsay Academy currently has branches in London and Woking, also in the United Kingdom. The academy did not immediately respond to Al-Monitor’s request for comment.

Why it matters: Saudi Arabia’s culinary scene is not yet on par with that of some Gulf neighbors but is steadily developing, according to observers. In June, the Michelin Guide — a prestigious global restaurant ranking — announced it would release its first guide for the kingdom.
