The Palestinian Authority said settlers attacked a mayor on Wednesday, shortly after a Palestinian teen was killed in an Israeli military raid near Jenin, as violence continues to escalate in the West Bank.

The PA’s WAFA news agency reported that the settlers assaulted Beita Mayor Mahmoud Barham and a member of the town’s municipal council. The two men were attacked while inspecting projects in the area and were treated at a nearby hospital, according to the outlet.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to Al-Monitor’s request for comment. Beita is located about five miles (eight kilometers) south of Nablus in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli military said Israeli troops shot and killed a 19-year-old assailant in Anza, near Jenin, who allegedly threw an explosive toward them. WAFA reported that a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli forces in the area.
