Iran and Uzbekistan reached new agreements Tuesday to strengthen trade and investment cooperation, particularly in mining, according to the state-run Iranian IRNA news agency.

What happened: Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Seyed Mohammad Atabak held talks with Uzbekistan’s minister of mining and geology and its minister of investment, industry and trade in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, IRNA reported Tuesday.

The discussions centered on developing joint ventures, streamlining customs processes and leveraging the industrial sectors of both countries to drive economic growth. The agreement will leverage Iran’s expertise in exploration, steel production and mining technology.

On Monday, the Iranian delegation, which included Iranian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Mohammad Ali Eskandari, met with Iranian entrepreneurs active in the Central Asian nation at the Iranian Embassy in Tashkent, IRNA reported.
