Egypt closes stores early, Jordan bans AC as Iran war takes toll
Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan announced Monday that the use of air conditioning and heating equipment in ministries, government departments and public institutions will now be prohibited.
Jordan has banned the use of air conditioning in public sector offices, while Egypt is closing shops early as regional governments try to shoulder the impact of high energy prices amid the US-Israel-Iran war.
What happened: In a statement on X, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan announced Monday that the use of air conditioning and heating equipment in ministries, government departments and public institutions will now be prohibited.
“Pursuant to the statement, the prime minister decided to prohibit the use of government vehicles except for official purposes, and to prohibit their use outside official working hours, while canceling all previous approvals and exceptions in this regard,” the statement added.
The government is also putting a two-month hold on international trips for government officials, unless deemed urgent and approved by the prime minister.
