
שלומי אלדר כותב עבור ''ישראל פולס'' של האתר אל-מוניטור. במהלך עשרים השנים האחרונות סיקר את הרשות הפלסטינית ובעיקר את המתרחש ברצועת עזה עבור ערוץ 1 וערוץ 10, בדגש על סיקור עליית כוחו של החמאס. אלדר זכה בפרס סוקולוב לעיתונות. הוא פירסם שני ספרים: ''עזה כמוות'' (2005) בו צפה את ניצחון החמאס בבחירות שנערכו לאחר מכן, וכן ''להכיר את החמאס'' (2012) שזכה בפרס יצחק שדה לספרות צבאית. שני סרטיו הדוקומנטריים "חיים יקרים" (2010) ו"ארץ זרה" (2018) זכו בפרסי אופיר (האוסקר הישראלי) בקטגוריית הסרט התיעודי הטוב ביותר. "חיים יקרים" אף נכלל ברשימה המקוצרת של האוסקר האמריקאי ושודר ברשת HBO. אלדר בעל תואר שני בלימודי מזרח תיכון מהאוניברסיטה העברית.
