Will insider attack force US to reckon with Syria’s new reality?

Welcome back to Al-Monitor Security.
It’s been a few months since our last edition in August. A lot has changed since then in Washington, and even more in the security landscape across the Middle East.
Over the past month alone:
- Yemen's southern separatists launched a potentially game-changing offensive, seizing Hadramout and Mahra provinces
- Israeli leaders have sought to convince the US on the need for new strikes against Iran's ballistic missile production
- Saudi Arabia and Turkey have reemerged as contenders to obtain the F-35.
But this week, we go to the ground level in Syria, where American troops have been quietly going outside the wire to liaise with members of the domestic security services under the country's new government led by former HTS leader Ahmad al-Sharaa.
