Top Democrat on foreign affairs shoots down pro-Palestinian trips
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., is unwilling to approve a proposed congressional delegation to the West Bank.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., is the first Palestinian American woman to serve in Congress. She’s also one of Congress’ first two female Muslim lawmakers.
As such, Tlaib wants to take the fight to the pro-Israel lobby by organizing a congressional delegation to the occupied West Bank as an alternative to the decades-long trips to Israel for freshman lawmakers organized by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
That’s not going over so well with some leaders in her own party.
