Turkey to lift curfews, relax virus restrictions July 1
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday that restrictions on public transportation will also be lifted.
Amid the waning number of COVID-19 cases, Turkey will further ease restrictions and curfews aimed at keeping the virus in check.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that beginning July 1, the country will lift Sunday lockdowns and the evening curfew that runs from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Workers in both the public and private sectors will return to their normal business hours.
"Public transportation restrictions will also be lifted, and public institutions will return to normal working hours," Erdogan said.
After a 17-day lockdown in May succeeded in bringing down the infection rate, Turkey has since rolled back some of its harsher restrictions, including partially reopening restaurants.
