Egyptian medical supply company offers safe work for Sudanese refugees

Al Capitol factory is considered among the first safe work environment for Sudanese refugee workers in Egypt.

Hosam Rabea and his business partner who are law graduates took advantage of the coronavirus pandemic when Egyptians needed face masks and young Sudanese workers craved jobs. So they began the startup in 2020 as a medical supplies plant.

The factory provided new opportunities for a group of junior workers, as well as many other benefits that are rare in the Egyptian job market such as regular working hours and a decent salary.

The practical skills that the Sudanese youths acquire at Al Capitol will make it easier for them to find future employment. In addition, the company provides legal recourse and consultation to the asylum seekers, and protects them from labor exploitation. The youth are given time off to play soccer or sing their folk songs.
