Lebanon’s justice minister met today with families of those detained in relation to the Beirut port explosion.

A delegation representing 15 detained individuals met with Justice Minister Henri Khoury in his office. They demanded the release of their loved ones until an investigation is completed, the official National News Agency reported.

“Their conditions get worse day by day,” the delegation said in a statement.

The Beirut port explosion occurred in August 2020 when more than a thousand tons of flammable fertilizer caught fire and exploded in a warehouse. More than 200 people died, with thousands more being displaced and otherwise affected by the blast. The explosion worsened Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis.
