Khamenei says max pressure led to US 'humiliation'
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that despite hardships brought about by Washington's maximum pressure strategy, Iran’s economy is enduring.
During a speech to business executives and manufacturers, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei addressed some of the economic issues the country has faced under sanctions.
“The endurance of manufacturers in the face of the economic attack and attempts by the enemy to prevent the sale of oil and gas and cut access to currency, and plans to close foreign exchanges with Iran is, in reality, a jihad and one of the greatest acts of service.”
Regarding US sanctions, Khamenei said, “In this attack on the country’s economy, problems have come about for people’s livelihoods but production has not been brought to its knees. And the US State Department spokesman said a few days ago that maximum pressure has come to a humiliating end.”
What Khamenei is referring to is comments made by US State Department spokesman Ned Price who said on Jan. 25, “The maximum pressure campaign was an abject failure. Everything that it promised, the opposite ended up coming true — whether it was promises of a better deal [or] a subdued Iran.”
