Women defy Bedouin culture to work in petrol station

In the Egyptian coastal city of Matrouh, about 450 km northwest of  the capital, several young women are working in a gas station, defying all societal traditions in a city whose residents are mostly desert Bedouins.

When Zainab and her female colleagues first offered their services to the owner of the gas station, he refused at first for fear of people's opinions on the subject.  

However, when they started to work in 2020, they proved their worth and commitment to work and impressed the employer and clients.

Zainab says that she is sometimes bullied or harassed because she is a woman, but she does not let that hinder her from doing the job that she loves.
