Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani rebuked the former Donald Trump administration on Thursday over the killing of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

“This action by the previous American administration represents a flagrant assault on Iraqi territory and sovereignty,” Sudani said while attending a memorial ceremony on the third anniversary of the assassination.

Sudani highlighted the illegality of killing the two leaders, who he said were fighting terrorism in Iraq.

“Targeting a leadership that had a role in repelling the terrorist attack on Iraq and the region is an action that does not express respect for bilateral agreements and friendship,” the Iraqi premier said. “It is also a dangerous act and its repercussions could threaten security and stability in the entire region."
