Lebanon’s military tribunal charged seven suspects on Thursday in the killing of an Irish peacekeeper and member of the United Nations' peacekeeping force in south Lebanon (UNIFIL) stationed at the border between Lebanon and Israel.

Pvt. Sean Rooney, 24, was killed last month when his convoy was ambushed and came under fire. Two other soldiers sustained light injuries. The attack took place in Al-Aqbiya, an area known to be home to supporters of the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

UNIFIL announced an investigation and a few days after the shooting, the Lebanese army announced that it had arrested a suspect. According to Hezbollah spokesperson Rana Sahili, the suspect was not a member of Hezbollah. She noted that the arrest was made in cooperation with the group.

According to unnamed officials, the investigation is still ongoing and the search for six other suspects is currently underway. It's unclear whether they are still in the country.
