DUBAI — Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are in the process of restoring diplomatic ties and reopening embassies, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing government officials from both sides.

This comes more than two years after Arab states including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain ended a boycott of Qatar. In 2017, these states had severed ties with Qatar over allegations that it supported terrorism and purported ties to Iran. Doha denied these accusations.

"At present, the activation of diplomatic ties, which will include the reopening of embassies, is under process between both countries," a UAE official said in a statement responding to Reuters.

An unnamed Gulf official told the news agency that the embassies are expected to reopen with new ambassadors in their posts by mid-June. A fourth source indicated that it would happen with full restoration within weeks.
