Biden postpones Germany, Angola trips over Hurricane Milton
The White House cited the need to prepare for the "projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton" as well as deal with the impacts of Hurricane Helene.
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden is postponing trips to Germany and Angola this week as he coordinates the federal response to the Category 5 hurricane barreling toward Florida, the White House said Tuesday.
The announcement comes as state and local officials urge residents of Florida’s west coast to evacuate before Hurricane Milton makes its expected landfall on Wednesday.
"Given the projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola in order to oversee preparations for and the response to Hurricane Milton, in addition to the ongoing response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast," White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
Biden was scheduled to leave Thursday for a two-day trip to Berlin for meetings with Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz and to attend a Ukraine-focused meeting of the so-called Quad of nations: the United Kingdom, United States, France and Germany.
