ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that Turkey was ready to contribute to efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza after President Joe Biden announced plans for new truce talks involving Turkey.

“We are ready to contribute in every way possible to stop the massacre in Gaza and to establish a permanent ceasefire,” Erdogan told his party’s lawmakers at the parliament.

The remarks followed Biden’s statements from Tuesday that the United States “will make another push with Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.”

Ankara has not played a direct role in the past negotiations involving the United States, Egypt and Qatar.
