Netanyahu aide arrested over leaked documents linked to stalled hostage deal: What we know
At least five people have been detained in connection to sensitive intelligence documents leaked from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At least five people have been detained over the past few days as the Israeli military and Shin bet investigate the alleged leak of classified documents from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Sunday the Rishon Leziyon magistrate court allowed the press to publish the identity of the prime suspect in the investigation, Eli Feldstein. Feldstein had worked in the office of the premier until April, first as spokesperson to the director general and then liaising with military correspondents. He apparently continued to work there in an unofficial capacity for several months after April.
Unnamed security officials confirmed to Ynet on Monday that four soldiers were also detained, including a junior officer. All four worked in a unit tasked with intelligence security. In its ruling, the court said that the actions of the five detainees could have harmed Israel's war goals, including efforts to secure the release of 101 hostages held by Hamas.
