TEHRAN — A Russian political-economic delegation arrived in Tehran on Monday to discuss bilateral ties with Iranian officials, the ISNA reported. 

The delegation is headed by Vitaly Savelyev and Alexey Overchuk, who are deputies to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. According to Iranian media, the visit is centered around final discussions on the signing of an Iran-Russia strategic partnership agreement, trade growth and advancing critical infrastructure projects. 

A key topic on the agenda was the status of the International North-South Transport Corridor, a 7,200-kilometer (4,473-mile) route that aims to enhance connectivity between Russia, India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Central Asia and Europe.

"Iran is determined to help complete the corridor," declared President Masoud Pezeshkian in his meeting with Savelyev. He was referring to Iran's segment, which is a railway connecting the northern cities of Rasht and Astara. Pezeshkian reasserted Tehran's readiness to press ahead with land acquisition and documentation, while encouraging the Russian side to expedite preparatory and technical surveying to accelerate the project.
