ANKARA — Turkey and Syria are working to draft a road map to build capacity for the Syrian army, a Turkish official said on Thursday.

“In line with the demands of the new Syrian government, a road map will be drafted in a bid to take concrete steps to enhance the capacity of the Syrian army,” a Turkish Defense Ministry official told reporters during a press briefing in Ankara.

The delegation from the Turkish Defense Ministry and their Syrian interlocutors held their first meeting last week as part of these efforts, the official added, without specifying where the meeting took place.

The announcement came after interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the Syrian leader’s first visit to Turkey on Tuesday.
