Edan Alexander, last American hostage, released from Gaza after Trump-Hamas deal
American envoys are waiting to meet with released hostage Edan Alexander, released from Hamas captivity in a deal negotiated between Washington and Hamas without Israel involved.

Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, 21, was released from Gaza captivity Monday evening after 584 days, in a deal negotiated between the Trump administration and Hamas.
Alexander, the only Israeli-American hostage known to be still alive, was released in Khan Younis in the south of the Strip, where Red Cross representatives received him. The handover did not include a release ceremony, as was the case in prior Israel-Hamas hostage-release deals.
Alexander was handed over by Red Cross agents to Israeli military forces and is now arriving at the Re’im army base near the Gaza border on the Israeli side. Al Jazeera reported that Alexander is healthy, but weak, and needed some help from Red Cross personnel while walking. His family members and American representatives are waiting for him at the Re’im base.
American envoy to the region Steve Witkoff and US representative on hostages Adam Bohler are also waiting at the military base. If his medical condition allows, Alexander might be flown to Qatar to meet with President Donald Trump.
Hundreds of Israelis marched Monday afternoon from Tel Aviv's Hostages Square to the annex of the American Embassy in the city, calling for all the remaining 58 hostages to be released. Among them are four Israeli-American hostages killed on Oct. 7 2023, whose bodies are held by Hamas.
