China’s premier makes first visit to Egypt as ties grow: What we know

Egypt and China have significantly deepened their ties in recent years across various sectors such as trade, defense, technology and the economy.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Egypt on Wednesday on first official visit to Cairo, as the two countries continue to boost partnerships across various sectors such as defense, trade, technology and infrastructure.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly welcomed Li at Cairo International Airport, and the two officials are due to hold talks on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between their countries.

Li’s two-day visit is also expected to witness the signing of several agreements aimed at expanding joint cooperation across various sectors, according to an Egyptian government statement.

“China and Egypt, as important members of the Global South, should further strengthen strategic coordination to safeguard their common interests,” Li said upon landing in the Egyptian capital.
