Explosion kills 4 in Syria’s Idlib: What to know
Syria remains littered with the waste of a Cold War arsenal and 14 years of civil war.
A blast in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province killed at least four people and injured five others near a popular amusement park on Thursday.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, although rumors circulated locally and online that a munitions depot had blown up. The Syrian government's Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry said in a statement that the explosion had occurred in a storage site intended for "remnants of war."
Syria’s state-run news agency, SANA, cited the country’s Ministry of Health as saying that the blast had occurred Thursday morning “in a residential building on the outskirts of Idlib city.”
Syria’s Civil Defense, known as the White Helmets, recovered one deceased person from under the rubble and rescued another injured individual. They also found two other bodies, one of them reportedly a child.
