Israel calls up 60,000 reservists as Egypt floats Hamas disarmament plan

Egypt is reportedly offering to hold Hamas' arms while a deal to end the war is hammered out.

Exploring creative solutions to advance a comprehensive ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, Egypt has reportedly proposed that the Palestinian militant group hand over its entire weapons stash to Cairo for an undefined period in response to Israel's demand that the group demilitarize. 

Israel’s public broadcaster Kan reported Tuesday that the Egyptian initiative also includes a temporary technocratic administration that would administer the Gaza Strip for several years under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority. Neither Israel nor Hamas have officially reacted to the initiative, Kan reported. 

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly objected to any post-war governance structure that would include the Palestinian Authority based on his long-held objection to Palestinian statehood and claims that the PA supports terrorism.
