Netanyahu sidesteps Trump's Gaza plan at UN as US presses Israel to end war

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet on Monday with President Donald Trump, where he will have to make decisions on whether to continue with the Gaza war or end it.

TEL AVIV — Three days before his expected meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered an angry speech to the UN General Assembly, berating world leaders for recognizing a Palestinian state and vowing that Israel would never countenance such a move. But conspicuously absent from his speech was any reference to Trump’s latest Gaza peace plan, which the two leaders are scheduled to discuss at the White House next Monday.

Netanyahu’s remarks were directed mainly to his constituents back home rather than to the delegates of the annual UN confab, many of whom abandoned the hall in protest as he took to the podium.

“Your disgraceful decision will encourage terrorism against Jews and against innocent people everywhere. It will be a mark of shame on all of you," Netanyahu said, accusing world leaders of having "buckled under the pressure of a biased media, radical Islamic constituencies and antisemitic mobs."
