Gorka praises Lebanon's President Aoun, discusses money laundering

Lebanese leaders met with senior White House adviser Sebastian Gorka and other US officials on Sunday and Monday to discuss cooperation on money laundering, as Washington increases pressure on Lebanon to curb Hezbollah’s power.
What happened: Gorka, senior director for counterterrorism at the White House, and Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism John Hurley met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Sunday. Gorka, who led the US Treasury Department delegation that met Aoun, referred to the president as a “friend” and "Christian leader" in a post on X and said he could help expand the Abraham Accords.

The Abraham Accords are a series of US-brokered normalization agreements Israel signed with Arab states. Lebanon lacks formal relations with Israel and has never indicated interest in joining.
