Israel utilized a second base in Iraqi territory during the war with Iran, according to a report on Sunday, indicating a more extensive Israeli presence in the country than previously believed. Iraqi officials have downplayed the reports but acknowledged they clashed with foreign forces in the desert.

Another base revealed

The New York Times reported on Sunday that an Israeli base near the town of Al-Nukhib, located in the western Anbar province, was discovered by a shepherd named Awad al-Shammari on March 3. He had seen soldiers, helicopters and a landing strip, and reported the sighting to Iraqi authorities, but was killed after a helicopter fired on his truck, according to the outlet.

The Times reported that the construction on the base, which supported Israeli operations against Iran, began in late 2024 and was used during the 12-day war with Iran last June, adding that Israel also built a second base in the area.
