Turkey names new envoys to Iran, Oman, Qatar in regional reshuffle
Turkey’s latest ambassadorial changes mark a partial return to career diplomacy in Tehran and the Gulf as Ankara maintains a balancing act amid the Iran war.
ANKARA — Turkey has replaced political appointees with career diplomats in several critical Middle Eastern postings, including Tehran and key Gulf capitals, as Ankara weathers the fallout from the Iran war.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan informed appointees of a new round of ambassadorial assignments on Tuesday, TRT reported, citing diplomatic sources.
The reshuffle includes several critical Middle East and Africa postings, with new envoys named to Tehran, Muscat, Amman, Kuwait, Doha, Manama. In five of the eight posts, Tehran, Muscat, Amman and Kuwait, political appointees are set to be replaced by career diplomats.
Iran: Ahmet Aydin Dogan, Turkey’s former ambassador to Libya and Morocco and a career diplomat who has most recently served in parliament’s foreign relations and protocol office, will replace non-career appointee Hicabi Kirlangic, a professor of Persian language and literature.
