Vance turning us into 'punching bag': Israel fumes over alleged IRGC-CENTCOM channel in Doha

The US-Iran decision to launch direct talks between the IRGC and CENTCOM in Qatar deepens the rift between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while heightening Israeli fears that Washington is shifting toward Doha and Tehran.

TEL AVIV — Washington’s decision to establish a joint US-Iran military communication channel in Qatar is prompting anger and embarrassment in Israel.

Vice President JD Vance said in an interview published Thursday by the British news site UnHerd that the United States and Iran had established a joint deconfliction mechanism between CENTCOM and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which Washington designated in 2007 as a terrorist organization.

“One of the things we wanted to come out with" was a "channel on the Iranian side, which we did,” said Vance, adding, “They were like, ‘OK, fine, we’ll send somebody from the IRGC to go hang out in Doha with somebody from CENTCOM,’ and that’s how we’re going to settle a lot of these disputes."
