Syrian Airlines expands Europe comeback with Vienna, Copenhagen flights

Syrian Airlines currently flies to 14 destinations across eight countries, with four additional routes planned.

Syrian Airlines is preparing to launch direct flights from Damascus to Vienna and Copenhagen in September, as Syria’s aviation recovery gathers momentum with more links to Europe and the wider international market after years of isolation.

The new routes will add to a growing list of international destinations being restored or launched by Syria’s national carrier in 2026, as authorities pursue a broader effort to rebuild the country’s air connectivity and attract foreign airlines. Those efforts got a boost on Monday, when the United States dropped Syria from a terrorism list that had restricted commercial investments in the country's economy.

What happened: Omar Al-Hosari, president of Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, announced on Tuesday that Syrian Airlines will begin scheduled direct flights between Damascus and both Vienna and Copenhagen on Sept. 21.

Hosari said the services form part of an ongoing plan to expand the airline’s international network and reestablish air connectivity between Syria and Europe.
