Qatar steps onto the global stage this week as it welcomes health ministers, experts and specialists from around the world for the sixth Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit. Held under the theme “Advancing Mental Health Care through Investment, Innovation, and Digital Solutions,” the summit brings together leading voices to shape the future of global mental health.

Far from being just another conference, the event features 64 international speakers, two high-level discussion panels and six specialized workshops. It explores how smart investment and digital innovation can transform the delivery of mental health care, moving beyond traditional approaches to meet the urgent needs of today’s world.

Central to the summit is Qatar’s commitment to recognizing mental health as an integral part of public health, social justice and human rights. Building on the achievements of previous gatherings in London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome and Buenos Aires, this year’s summit strengthens a growing global movement that recognizes mental health as fundamental to human development.

The timing is especially significant, taking place just days after the United Nations high-level meeting on mental health.

The format builds suspense: three challenges on the opening day, followed by three more on the second, with the fifth challenge serving as the semifinal round. Approximately half of the competitors will advance, culminating in a grand final that showcases the top 10 athletes from each category.

Beyond the high-intensity contests, spectators can enjoy a vibrant entertainment area featuring shops, restaurants and cafes, making the event a full-scale experience that blends sport, community and lifestyle.

4. Film of the week: “Yalla Parkour”

“Yalla Parkour” takes viewers on an emotional journey that is both deeply personal and universally moving. This 2024 documentary, co-produced with Qatari support, follows the director as she returns to the Gaza Strip and reconnects with a parkour athlete, weaving together memory, identity and movement in a poetic exploration of resilience. What makes this film special is how it uses the physical language of parkour as a metaphor for navigating life's obstacles, creating a beautiful dialogue between art, sport and the human spirit that transcends cultural boundaries.
